In writings on the Internet, there is nearly always much confusion about the very different aspects of the various components of nuclear EMP.   In addition, there is much confusion in distinguishing high-altitude nuclear EMP,  non-nuclear EMP weapons  and solar geomagnetic storms.   There are very large differences among these very different electromagnetic disturbances; although there are many similarities linking solar-caused geomagnetic storms and the E3 component (but not the other components) of high-altitude nuclear EMP.   Nearly everything written in popular articles, even in the most respectable publications, jumbles up a nearly incomprehensible mix of information confusing the effects of the E1 and E3 components of electromagnetic pulse.   This has been largely responsible for the large number of widely-believed EMP Myths .

In accordance with the objective of the Centre, the facilities are made available to scientists from all over the country. Schools / workshops are organised at the national level to make the users aware of the latest developments in the area of NMR spectroscopy and also to help them in making the best use of the available facilities. Generation of capability for maintenance / development / improvement of sophisticated instruments and providing assistance to other laboratories are also the objectives of the Centre.

Studies of solids by NMR relaxation experiments are special issues based on the following general statements. The experimental decay of macroscopic transverse or longitudinal magnetization follows the exponential law for complete domination of the spin-diffusion mechanism and a single relaxation time characterizes all of the nuclei in rigid solids, even those that are not chemically or structurally equivalent. The spin-diffusion mechanism is typical of systems with nuclei experiencing strong dipolar interactions (protons, fluorine or phosphorus nuclei at relatively small concentrations of paramagnetic centers). For other nuclei with weak dipolar coupling and/or at high concentration of paramagnetic centers, relaxation can be non-exponential following a stretched exponential function, exp(–(τ/T1) β ) or exp(–(τ/T2) β ). For paramagnetic solids, the β value of corresponds to relaxation via direct electron–nucleus dipolar interactions without spin diffusion, while intermediate values between and can be attributed to a diffusion-limited mechanism.
